About the event

In November 2019, the Lily Li Future Foundation and Harvard Club of New York hosted the "Peaceful World" International Calligraphy Exhibition, a remarkable showcase of over 150 pieces by Master Fo Tao. The exhibition, co-presented by Beijing Shudao Taixue Company and UBI Blockchain Internet Ltd., masterfully intertwined ancient Chinese calligraphy with groundbreaking blockchain and virtual reality technologies. This fusion not only authenticated the artworks but also offered a deeply immersive viewing experience, where attendees could engage with the creative process through virtual reality.

Master Fo Tao’s calligraphy first graced the U.S. at a private United Nations exhibition in 2014. Renowned for his significant contributions to sinology and Buddhist studies, he has since then been celebrated as a bridge between traditional art forms and modern innovation. His works, intricate in detail and profound in cultural significance, drew enthusiasts and scholars alike, providing insight into the spiritual and historical depths of Chinese calligraphy. The event highlighted the "Chinese Dream" and other significant works like the "Diamond Sutra," each piece reflecting complex philosophical themes through the art of calligraphy.

The exhibition's use of technology did more than just showcase Fo Tao’s artistic prowess; it also set a precedent for how traditional arts can be preserved, interpreted, and appreciated in the digital age. By integrating blockchain technology, the authenticity and ownership of each piece were securely recorded, ensuring transparency for collectors and art lovers. Meanwhile, virtual reality allowed visitors to experience the art in a transformative way, offering a new perspective on the meticulous skill and spiritual dedication involved in traditional calligraphy. “We believe that culture and art are the common language of mankind, and the interoperability and interaction of cultures will certainly contribute to world peace and development,” said Lily Li.
